Best DC Hotel

Where would you recommend for easy walkable access to National Mall, etc? Two adults & a six year old.

Stayed at The Pendry last time, and thought it was in a great location, but questioning whether it’s really kid-friendly.

Would love some recs. Prefer 4 star & up. Thanks!

Waldorf Astoria is nice

Haven’t stayed at WA, but it looks stuffy. I also hear that it’s pretty overpriced. The Conrad is really nice, but not as convenient to the mall. I also think it’s overpriced too. We stayed at the Conrad with a reward night. I think the room was $600, which seemed steep.

The Salamander, which used to be the Mandarin Oriental. I haven’t stayed since it switched ownership but I like the location

I think titling your post "the best" and then revealing later that you are most concerned with "kid friendly" is problematic.

I like the Hay-Adams. It's "the best" for me. But if your kids run screaming around the lobby I will give you nasty looks.

For kid-friendly, you're better off staying across the river at a Hilton.

OP here. Thanks — these are good recs. Good point about best/kid friendly. I guess I want a good spot where having a 6 year old isn’t going to offend anyone’s sensibilities. She’s used to Ritz/JW so she won’t feel out of place.

Looked at The Salamander, but it’s under construction & I was worried that not having some amenities would suck.

Thanks, all!

Wouldn’t a Hilton or equivalent in DC be better and more convenient than across the River? My sister has tried to save money staying at hotels in Jersey City, when visiting NYC. It’s not that much cheaper and it’s much better staying in Manhattan. You’re closer to everything and can go to your room to rest and freshen up before going back out.

Didn’t know it’s under construction… the spa is great and pool, but if unavailable that’s a shame. You could try the Ritz downtown at 22nd and L. Or the Willard. Both convenient to the mall.

Wrong city. Clearly you are making up answers.

I’m not the PP, and I won’t go downtown since I might be carjacked, but even I know that the old Trump Hotel is now the Waldorf Astoria.

I like the Pendry

Stayed at the Salamander in the hall and I was underwhelmed. The location is remote and unwelcoming and while the hotel was fine it wasn’t anything special and felt sterile.
