Need new spring break plans

Anonymous
We had to postpone our planned caribbean spring break so now trying to pivot at the last minute for our break the last week in March. Would still like to go someplace warm, needs to be near water & fishing options. We'd probably prefer to drive, although flying is an option, but still trying to keep the cost under $5k for family of 4 (12yo & 15yo). I was thinking OBX bc there's a decent amount of stuff to do there & rentals are reasonable that time of year, but worried it might be too cold. Georgia islands or northern Fla like Amelia Island or St Augustine? Definitely not looking to be in a crush of college kids on spring break, but still need a spot with stuff that interests the kids beyond just the beach. TIA!

You can get to Vero Beach in a day. It's a long day, but obviously the further south you go the warmer it will be. May be tough to find a rental. Other than beach there is a Navy Seal museum which is supposed to be cool and you can do Kennedy Space Center.

Anywhere north of Miami/FLL is likely to be cold the last week of March.

My parents are in Savannah GA and places like Tybee island that time of year aren’t that warm. Warmer than DC but not likely to be sit on the beach weather. How warm do you want and what’s the trade off of that vs fly somewhere?

I have been to St Aug on Spring Break, in April. Ocean water was cold but we rented a house with a heated pool that was usable.

The Miami/Ft Lauderdale flights are really reasonable under $200 RT NS right now.

I think unless you go to the Caribbean or Mexico, you aren’t going to be guaranteed warm water and warm weather so you have to make a choice as to how far south you can drive or fly and available lodging. That leaves the Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, and Florida plus maybe Texas beaches. So at this late stage, figure out where you can get lodging and then plan that way.

No, it's a pool.

What about the Tampa/St Pete area? Nice beaches in St Pete , you have The Pier and various museums, Tampa side you have Zoo Tampa, Busch Gardens...about 1.5 hrs up the coast you have kayaking at Weeki Wachee springs, and in between there are many fishing excursion places.

Late March won't be 'cold'. Likely it will be nice and warm, and the water decent-not bathwater like August!

DP here. We are just trying to help set realistic expectations. If OP is driving, she might require a heated pool to swim.

Sorry to say but Amelia Island/St. Augustine, etc are all going to be too cold.

Nothing is warm that time of year except south Florida and it seems like they’re having a cold year.

If I were you, I might change plans completely and give up on East coast beaches. Fly to Santa Fe, maybe.

Why the hell would you fly to St. Augustine to sit in a pool? You know what OP wants, and that's not it.
