ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Anonymous
ECNL already allows trapped players to play down (believe 8th graders). I don’t know why anyone would think they wouldn’t add to or modify that rule to help clubs and players transition.

I understand that the change in 2017 created chaos, so it would make sense for them to try to implement some transitional rules to make the change less chaotic.

They could do nothing I suppose, but it would be odd.

For most, the change went into effect in the fall of 2016. There was a lot of complaining in the spring of 2016, but it the change happened and people went on with their lives.

At this point, ECNL is likely either waiting to come up with a consensus with AYSO and USYS on how many Q4s can play down per team (or unlimited) - or they are all waiting until the end of the spring to avoid as much complaining from parents as possible. Or perhaps literally nothing changes in 25/26.

Amazing how some poeple think being on an ECNL team with 30 players is better than getting moved to the second team....

The science says 75% of players will now be born From September 1 - January on top teams within 2 cycles.

Good luck to all.

If ECNL were going to have everything stay exactly the same in 25/26 - and you need to wait until 26/27 for any changes - you'd know about it by now.

US Club made the announcement…NO changes until 26/27. ECNL should have come out with a statement confirming that, but they haven’t. It doesn’t mean they are actually making changes.

ECNL does not have to come out with a repetitive statement if US Club has already clearly specified no change for next year. ECNL clubs are proceeding with business as usual.

"clearly specified no change for next year"

Let's read what US Club Soccer actually announced.

It announced that it agree to adopt the 9/1 to 8/31 cutoffs beginning in 26/27

The interesting thing is inside their statement, they said players before 9/1 have the opportunity to play up per club's guidance, so SY play up in BY?

This is just another way of saying that Q4 players are not required to play on a SY team. If the club allows them to continue on their old BY team (and play up), that's the club's choice. But of course that's not a new rule.

That is why U.S. soccer needs to update the plan asap, so we can all stop guessing.

If no change, then why US Soccer has not updated their website? It has been 2 weeks since the AGM.

I'll put money on waiting till tryouts are done. But also amazed at the number of people who take a press release that US Club, USYS, and AYSo will have the same rules for "Registration" means ECNL can't or won't so anything within their closed infrastructure to manage the change.

DOCs are certain their will be some interim transition rules within ECNL, so that is from people in the know. My money is on: two trapped players can play down per game at all groups in 25/26, and unlimited trapped players can play down in ECNL/ECRL showcases in 25/26.

Agree on it, can not see a strong reason against ECNL simply extends its current trapped 8th grader play down rule to all age groups, and SY for 25/26 showcase.

Also curious about MLSN and GA. I still believe they will be forced to change to SY. We will know it soon.

I agree with this though it could be more than 2, maybe 4 to keep as many current Q4 players as possible. If it is all internal to ECNL events then it should be a problem.

Encl already has rules in place that are different than the exact rules from their governing body (USCS) so because USCS isn’t making a change in age groups next season does not mean ECNL is unable to made some changes to their roster rules.

Your reading comprehension might also be on the low end. Or you read what you want to read (which is common for the BY advocates on this thread).
