Smart scale

Anonymous
Does anyone have a smart scale they would recommend? Something that calculates bone mass, body fat % etc. I saw an ad for the Fit Track and was considering it, but not sure how reliable those scales are now (I remember hearing they were very inaccurate when I first looked at them several years ago).

They are completely unreliable. Don’t waste your money. Buy whatever cheap scale to track your weight and get a DEXA scan every few months to track body composition if you really want to know. Or you can also just track your measurements.

Agree the impedance measuring is basically useless. It is nice to have one with an app for tracking. I have a body+ from withings

I wouldn't get one.

A friend did and became totally obsessed. She offered to buy one for me and I declined. She's a nutritionist and is constantly upgrading her scales and apps. And is still 25 lbs overweight.

My DH has a Garmin one and tracks several things between the scale, his watch, and the app. He thinks it’s great.

Thanks for the responses! I have a regular scale and have no current weight loss goals, but I’ve been trying to lift heavier, eat more protein etc. and thought this might be a helpful metric to see if I’m making progress. I don’t track anything using a watch or whatever the current trend is, so I don’t see myself at risk of obsessing over it. Even so, I guess I’ll wait for the tech to improve. I don’t think I’m interested in going for periodic DEXA scans at this point.

Hey ,
I, too, had a normal scale for weight tracking . Than I switch to the more recent one, NEXTLEVLFIT (Smart Body Weight Scale), which syncs with a fitness app and measures 13 metrics and tracks and guides your workout routine as I am on a weight loss track. It kind of suit me, not much but for detailed metrics and even comprehensive guide better then old weight scale which only display weight number.

I have one and it was a complete waste of money.

I get an InBody scan once a month at my gym. It's free, better than a home scale I could afford, and good enough to see changes over time. Nothing is as reliable as a DEXA, but I wasn't willing to pay for regular scans or expose myself to unnecessary radiation.

According to my doctor, the one thing InBody scans (and other bioimpedance scans) are good at measuring is water. Everything else is an estimate based on water. That alone is more informative than regular scales.
