Tamiflu-kid vaxxed for flu has flu

Anyone have a similar situation and if so hiw fast did the tamiflu work?

If it’s the liquid version it’ll taste so bad you won’t be able to get your kid to take it.

Most peds will not recommend tamiflu in healthy kids with no risk factors for complications. Potential side effects are very real and also it only shortens system by about a day.

Seems like the flu vaccine was ineffective this year.

Vaccines aren’t for the prevention of disease.

Flu vaccines are generally about 50-60% effective at preventing infection because they are guessing at strains each year.

Vaccines don't eliminate your chances of getting an illness. They will generally lessen the damage it does if you do wind up catching it.

How is this answering OP's question?

My vaxxed kid (9) had the flu in December. Didn't get Tamiflu, but fever broke in 24 hours, symptoms were gone in 48.

What are you talking about?

Vaccines are 100% for the prevention of disease.

Specifically:

“ Fluzone® Quadrivalent is a vaccine indicated for active immunization for the prevention of influenza disease caused by influenza A subtype viruses and type B viruses contained in the vaccine.”

I understand and some years it’s a better match than others. I know several kids who had the vaccine and still got very sick with the flu for several day. It seems like it wasn’t a great match this year.

Pp’s statement is what we’ve been told for the Covid vaccine, so they were extrapolating it to other vaccines.

For example 2022 was poor match and provided meager protection: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna19485

Anecdotally I think this year seems like a bad match too.

WTF are you talking about? Yes, they are for the prevention of disease. Why do we no longer get measles, mumps, chickenpox or all the other things we have vaccines for?

The covid vaccine was the only utter failure at preventing disease. Which then led to the narrative that "oh it prevents dying from it". Then everyone started spewing the "well vaccines aren't meant to prevent disease.

My son was vaccinated for the flu in 2023 and still got the flu. He was pretty sick. I had never seen him that sick before. Full week out of school and still another week before his energy was back.

He did not take tamiflu. He tried to but vomitted it up 10 minutes after taking.

The vaccine this year was for Flu A, my kid still got Flu A.
