| Straight up… any chance at all for RD? 4.0 Gpa, test optional, theatre. |
| OOS? |
| Weighted or unweighted? |
Unweighted GPA? Sure if course schedule was deemed most rigorous in your school. If weighted GPA, very unlikely, unless theatre includes major accomplishments. There is always "a chance" though. |
| With an interview and a great essay, might have a chance or at least waitlisted with the option to start in Spring. DD had an uw 3.7, w4.1 and got the waitlist/spring start option (chose to go elsewhere). |
They interview? |
Yes, it's optional and interview slots fill up quickly but, especially if you are borderline, I think it helps. Keep an eye on the admissions page for summer interview slots to be posted. I didn't think DD had any shot at all in RD so was surprised she was offered the Spring option. I think her interview was good -- ran longer than the specified time and she thought it went well. In contrast, as I was waiting for her, I saw some kids leaving their interview after only 10 minutes. That did not seem like a good sign! |

Both of my DS' applied RD and were admitted. My youngest DS had a 4.2 weighted GPA, FCPS high school, full IB and applied TO. He did interview. Currently a freshman at W&M.
My older DS was high school class of 2018 so his stats are irrelevant to current applicants. However, his stats fell in the lower 25% of admitted students. He interviewed as well & I'm convinced the interview was a huge factor in his admission. W&M takes interest into consideration & unless you say something really awful (racist, hateful comments), the interview will only help you. |
If you get a spring start option - do you know if you can take classes at a community college in the fall so that you don't fall behind in terms of graduating as a member of the class of 2028? My kid actually wants to do gap year - but a spring start sounds like a good compromise. Also, if they allow for community college classes in the fall, it seems like a great way to save money! But to answer OP's question- yes, you have a chance. Also, a lot depends on geography as well. When I went to William and Mary back in the 90s, most kids from my school (in northern Virginia) who had under 1350s (which I think is more the equivalent of a 1450 today) on the SAT did not get into William and Mary. However, when I got to William and Mary, my roommate, who was from the Hampton area, said that her SAT was only a 950 (she said that she was a really bad test taker). She was not URM, athlete, donor, superstar, etc. So the only thing that I can think of is that she went to a high school in an area that was not competitive and b/c William and Mary is a state school, they were required to pick kids from all over the state (no matter how low some of the scores were). |

I am wondering this too.
DS did RD 4.1, 1380 so bottom quarter of class. Did submit tests though. From a top fcps not first Gen or urm Varsity athlete at state level. Interviewed last year. I am not sure if he would do the spring admit waitlist thing, but I actually think it would be great, other than an admit outright. I’m hoping he even has an option, I think hell either be waitlisted or rejected. Annoyingly we have to wait another month plus on this. |
I believe the option was to either take CC classes or do a study abroad program for the Fall. I love W&M and wished DD would have considered it (we'd have been happy to pay for the study abroad) but she wanted to get out of DC/Virginia and chose a small LAC. |
Here are the details: https://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/how-to-apply/waitlistfaqs/guaranteed-admission-pathway/ It is either do 12 credits at community college or go on one of the 3 Verto Education programs. |
