With an interview and a great essay, might have a chance or at least waitlisted with the option to start in Spring. DD had an uw 3.7, w4.1 and got the waitlist/spring start option (chose to go elsewhere).
If you get a spring start option - do you know if you can take classes at a community college in the fall so that you don't fall behind in terms of graduating as a member of the class of 2028? My kid actually wants to do gap year - but a spring start sounds like a good compromise. Also, if they allow for community college classes in the fall, it seems like a great way to save money! But to answer OP's question- yes, you have a chance. Also, a lot depends on geography as well. When I went to William and Mary back in the 90s, most kids from my school (in northern Virginia) who had under 1350s (which I think is more the equivalent of a 1450 today) on the SAT did not get into William and Mary. However, when I got to William and Mary, my roommate, who was from the Hampton area, said that her SAT was only a 950 (she said that she was a really bad test taker). She was not URM, athlete, donor, superstar, etc. So the only thing that I can think of is that she went to a high school in an area that was not competitive and b/c William and Mary is a state school, they were required to pick kids from all over the state (no matter how low some of the scores were).
I believe the option was to either take CC classes or do a study abroad program for the Fall. I love W&M and wished DD would have considered it (we'd have been happy to pay for the study abroad) but she wanted to get out of DC/Virginia and chose a small LAC.
Here are the details: https://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/how-to-apply/waitlistfaqs/guaranteed-admission-pathway/ It is either do 12 credits at community college or go on one of the 3 Verto Education programs.
