Prom dress budget

What is a reasonable budget for a prom dress these days? Daughter wants something around $200 with see through lace?!

My daughter’s was $800 because we never go to stores specializing in teens, it has to be altered and we got it on sale which helped with the $250 alterations.

We give a $500 budget for everything. Dress, shoes, hair, nails, etc. Three girls and none have yet to spend the full $500.

I would not spend more than $100

My daughter’s was just over $100. $200 doesn’t sound too out of line depending on what else she will want to go with the dress.

I think up to $500 for dress, shoes, accessories.

If they just needed a dress, up to $300.

Wow!! What to do with this expensive dress after prom?!

We just spent a bit over $500 for the dress. Shoes were cheap at only $30!

We went to a popular boutique and I don't think there was anything for less than $200.

My dress was $375 in 1992. I think it really depends. I am not looking at name brands for show but if it’s the perfect dress and it’s her only dance, I would pay close to $1000.

Sell it or rent it for $50 a time. Lots of girls do this.

There's a big range -- are you shopping at Lulus or Windsor or Macy's or Neiman Marcus?

Mine in 1994 was $98 so...more than that, LOL!

Did anyone's daughter do Rent the Runway for their prom dress?
