Who DIDN’T enjoy Montréal?

Anyone on who did not enjoy Montréal? Why not? What did you dislike? Seeking honest opinions about hat you disliked ahead of planning a trip there.

Following.

I’m especially interested in experiences of people of African descent.

Tip: please don’t go in the winter unless skiing nearby is part of the plan

So we went there for one evening and it was OK, very crowded. We were staying at an AirBNB about 30min away in Vandreil-sur-le-lac and that whole area was just paradise. So we didn't end up going back into town.

I hated that I found out the best pastrami is in Montreal and I will not be able to get it unless I return.

Me. I didn’t hate it, but it just seemed like a big city anywhere in North America. And a lot of it was under construction at the time.

Really enjoyed Quebec City for a few nights though.

Montreal and Toronto are the most bland cities I’ve ever visited (and I’ve visited multiple times).

Old Quebec, Vancouver, and even Ottawa are far more interesting/fun.

Vancouver seems bland as hell aside from the setting.

Please say more about the paradise.

I went in the winter, unexpectedly. I was in college in the south, a cousin was in college in Vermont, and JetBlue had a sale so I went up for a weekend. We went to Montreal for one day. It was insanely cold and I wasn't really dressed correctly. Everyone used these underground tunnels to get around (see above: cold) which makes perfect sense for commuting but is not particularly conducive to seeing the sights as a tourist. I remember literally nothing else about that day except thinking I might get frostbite and wondering how late I could hold off complaining so I didn't seem like an ingrate.

I would go again, and I chalk my bad experience up to just dumb/no planning as a kid who was along for the ride.

It's full of lakes / canals / rivers and riverside restaurants & bars. Our hosts and his neighbors were the best. We went to an abandoned quarry for a hike. Watched the sunset over the canals. It was so relaxing.

I thought it was over rated.

We also had more fun in Ottawa - had a great rate on a close in hotel, walked to fun pubs, enjoyed the restaurants, great Parliament tour, canal area was cute.
