| Anyone know what the differences are? Daughter currently plays rec and is interested in joining club. Should she tryout for both teams and see where she’s offered a spot? Both locations are convenient, so it’s really just about the club. |
| NL is fine for the younger years but if your daughter wants to play competitive lacrosse she should go to BLC. Also, I would avoid clubs that have both boys and girls programs as the boys tend to draw more resources than the girls. |
| The downfall to BLC is in a few years when your DD heads off to HS she will need to switch clubs since BLC ends in MS if she likes it and wants to keep playing. NL is a different story they continue through HS but they play in very low brackets and usually are not very competitive in them coaching is usually not on the same level as other clubs in the area. Maybe consider Rebels they go through HS and they have really seemed to be on the upswing lately. |
NL is interesting because they do have strong 2029s, but I foresee their best leaving for Capital once it is time for HS because they have no recruiting history. Their 27s were decent but their best did just that and some also went to Rebels and MCE because of the recruiting history. |
NL is non-existent in HS, has a good ‘29 team and a solid intro program. That’s what they are good at. |

It really comes down to coaching. The capabilities of coaches in the DMV vary wildly. There just aren't enough good coaches to go around. (We probably have too many clubs in the area.) There's plenty of nice coaches and plenty of coaches that have played the game but that doesn't mean they're all good teachers. Go to both tryouts, ask parents that currently play for the clubs, and see if you can get a feel. NL and BLC have a few good coaches but they don't have a good one for every team.
And yes, they both essentially end at middle school. NL may officially continue into HS but if your daughter is good enough, you'll leave for something more. |
BLC is a boys and girls lax club. Did you know this when you posted your comment? |
To be perfectly honest, I forgot. Just know from my experience at NL that the girls never got the same amount if attention and funds thrown their way as the boys. The director had no clue about any of the girls teams. That was my only point. |

Go to other clubs in MD - Skywalkers, M&D or Hero's have programs that grow from MS to HS

How do you realistically get kids to weekday practices from the DC area when you go this route? |
| It’s a sacrifice but you make the drive. The benefits become obvious once you realize how much better the clubs are run than the Moco clubs. Never thought we’d do it but once we had some interactions with those clubs it became clear our DD deserved better than they were getting in Moco. |
Could not agree more. |
NL is not a girls club. Not even sure why they try. BLC boys get a lot more attention that the girls. DC area clubs don’t support the girls at the same level as Baltimore. It’s maddening. |
Spot on. Girls pay a fortune which subsidizes boys program. They have one decent team, the ‘29s, and that is it. |
+1,000 MoCo lax is soft do yourself and your daughter a favor and move north to Howard County HoCo, Heros, and M&D are all based out of Howard County most practice around Columbia it is not that hard of a commute the fields they use are all amazing and you can't argue with any of there college commit list the MoCo teams don't even come close to what they put out. |
