Northwood Shelter in place right now (2/9)?

Have you heard anything?

Why did MCPD have a pattern of posting these shelter-in-place warnings for schools and then stop?

Anyway, it might have to do with this?

Thank you. My child was texting me and DH updates and then was told to stop.

Sligo too. This is scary.

Jeepers! I live less than 0.5 mile from Sligo and had no idea this was happening.

Rumor in my house is the suspect was arrested in the field outside Sligo.

Why did it take 30 minutes after shots fired for Northwood to go into lockdown?

Um because Principals probably needed the ok from Central office to do so and they couldn't find any one knowledgeable at CO to make the call or the decision makers were off engaging in a scandal. You know the usual.

Principals are allowed to make immediate security decisions for their own schools, obviously without input from any one else. However here, I suspect police did not immediately warn the school that there were suspects on the loose in the vicinity. The Principal cannot act on what they don't know.

He says “ We are very thankful to our Montgomery Police partners for their work to ensure safety in our community and schools. We will always collaborate in their efforts to ensure safety and, in this case, we deliberated with police, and the administration decided, in an abundance of caution, to enact first the Lockdown and then to enter a Shelter-In-Place. Dismissal occurred at the regular scheduled time. ”

I support the decision. I just wish there was an immediate alert when your child’s school locks down.

Teacher here. It was very scary. All of a sudden we got the announcement - this is a lockdown (with no other information).
No one knew what was going on or how immediate the threat was. There was a fight earlier in the hall way too. So sad what is happening to American high schools.

If a lockdown is called, very little is told to anyone inside the building until Principal has confirmed detail of whatever incident prompted the lockdown. Teachers, students, staff in the dark. Usually people outside the school (parents frantically texting child, media) know more.

I’m so sorry that happened to all of you. No one should feel afraid in a school.

Do you have any insight into why an adult would tell a frightened child to stop texting their family?

Risk of noise. A lockdown usually entails total quiet and a text back might result in an audible ping or buzz. It’s literally a life saving tactic.

Exactly. You should not text your child in these instances.
