How much for a wedding cash gift

Anonymous
We haven’t been to a wedding in many years. Our entire family, including kids, are invited to a fancy wedding, that is otherwise a ‘no kids’ wedding. The couple getting married is very dear to us. We want to give them a generous, but not ostentatious gift, what is the common cash gift range for weddings?

In my circle standard is to give $1K to nieces and nephews, $500 to kids of close friends, $250 to random invites. We are UMC in 50's.

We give $1k.

How many people are attending? I would give more than what I give for just DH and I ($300).

$500-1000 depending how close you are.

no less than 500

What's your HHI?

Is the wedding in DC? I think location drives much of this.

$250 is pretty standard. More if they’re a niece or nephew or related to you closely.

There’s not one answer here OP it depends on your finances and the wedding.

Holy crap. That is a ton of money! What do you people do for a living?

Do you not have a mortgage, klds in college, retirement to save for, and other expenses?

We have had the same furniture for thirty years, we drive old cars, and rarely go on vacation together, for just a few examples. HTH are we supposed to afford that kind of wedding present? How much are they spending on these outrageous weddings?

Dh and I paid for our own wedding entirely, got nothing but crap from his family, and all we asked is that people show up and enjoy themselves, which apparently was a tall order. I could not imagine expecting that amount for a cash gift. Are these PPs brides to be who are posting?? They want money??

What does this mean? If they spent too much on their wedding, you are expected to "pay" a certain amount? This sounds outrageous.

Agree about $500-$1000

Your experience many moons is irrelevant. It’s common place for guests to generously give what they comfortably can to help a new couple start their life together. The amount will vary from person to person. It’s ok if you give $100 and the next person gives $500 and the next gives $1000. All good.
