| I need to bring an impressive dessert and am not a great baker. Guests will be 6 adults and 6 kids. Help me brainstorm please. |

Can you just go to a bakery and buy a cake?
Cake or other baked stuff is really the dessert that transports best. |
| Go to Wegmans and get their chocolate dome cake. It’s small but very rich so you only need to serve thin slices. |
| Trader Joe’s has chocolate lava cakes and a couple other desserts that look nice! |
|
I agree with the other poster that Wegmans is good for pretty looking desserts. The fruit tarts are very nice. For cakes, go to any Korean bakery in your area. They’ll have beautiful cakes that aren’t overly sweet.
If you want to put something together yourself that’s impressive, consider a trifle. I usually make everything from scratch, but you can use good quality store bought pound cake and instant custard. Get a pretty dish, and layer your cake, custard, and fruit. Top with home made whipped cream. Decorate with fruits. Burnt Basque Cheesecake is delicious and easy to make. Because it is rustic looking, it’s fine if there are imperfections. If you’re willing to go to a little bit of trouble, make meringue nests or pavlova. You can fill it with whatever you want, but berries are super easy and look amazing. I usually glaze my berries for a better look. |
| Creme caramel/flan. I like the one with condensed milk. |
I think this is the one. https://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes/latin-flan.html |
|
If they like chocolate, this is foolproof
https://www.hersheyland.com/recipes/chocolate-mousse.html Put in a glass or crystal bowl and add fresh raspberries. |
| As you do not appear to be hosting this likely will not work but a Baked Alaska is an easy/fun dessert for a mixed age party. |

Anything flambe
Buy a flourless chocolate cake, douse with rum and set on fire. Dessert and a show. Kids can have their own FCC without alcohol |

If you have to bring something and it's acceptable to buy it, desserts from Whole Foods, Wegmans, or a well-regarded local pie shop or bakery are always great.
If it's implied you'll make something, I like to bring a trifle. Lots of recipes online, they look pretty, and most ingredients can be store bought, though I like to make the whipped cream and other components myself. Google around and see what you think is doable for you. |
| Pavlova. I made this for Easter dessert and it was pronounced 5 star. It is easy to make. I would make individual ones. |
| Berry Trifle (if you have a proper glass trifle bowl, even better. They are cheap to purchase on amazon). I make with store bought pound cake, boxed vanilla pudding, frozen berries that I thaw and coolwhip. Everyone thinks its all homemade and it looks impressive. |
|
I don't understand the trifle posts.
Maybe if served in individual footed bowls. Otherwise it looks like a sloppy dump of ingredients. Like you tried to make a layer cake, failed, and made trifle. |
My uncle’s hair caught fire doing this once when we were kids. Now that was a show! |
