Arlington School Board candidates

Is there a final list of candidates for this spring? With two seats open I hope there are good candidates jumping in the race.

I assume you mean individuals planning to enter the Democratic caucus? That deadline is next week.

Three new candidates put forth their names at this week's Arlington County Democrats meeting.

ArlNow just published a longer article. I have only found a website for one candidate so far.

Kathleen Clark and Zuraya Tapia-Hadley look really promising! Larry Fishtahler might have been good 20 years ago, I think he's past his time.

You can watch their launch speeches here:

Is there an APE candidate this time (let's hope not).

It seems to me like there's about 5 people left in that group.

kidding aside, your daily reminder that APE is not some scary shadow organization. it puts out entirely reasonable takes grounded in what they think improves academic achievement. and if anyone disagrees, read one of their newsletters and point out anything that's not directly related to academics. zero culture war crap.

Great. We can stop talking about them.

I hope not. Such a-holes.

Zuraya Tapia-Hadley has no APS volunteer experience. She’s a federal lobbyist. Does she want to be on the SB as a stepping stone to higher office?

Wouldn't that be nice?!

I think she was chair of the ACI for a while. Note that Walter Tejada introduced her. She’s the next Latinx candidate since Christina isn’t running for reelection.

Exactly. CDT is a disappointment. ZTH has kids in APS so that's a plus.

What is ACI?

Oh well. If Tejada introduced her... he was awful, and I'm not buying that we "must" have a Latino/a on the board. I value experience more highly.

The only reason the APE candidate (Miranda Turner) won is because no one was running against her. Really hoping for more than one real candidate this time.
