Arlington School Board candidates

I’m thrilled to hear Kathleen and Zuraya aren’t handmaidens for MPSA. A teacher is running now too. Anyone know what he thinks about the CIP plan to build MPSA a new building?

I agree with your sentiment, but the cynic in me says that criticizing the CIP is easier when you don't have to vote on it. I still wonder if the candidates would ever make dissenting votes as a SB member.

KC seems like a different mold than CDT or Priddy.

Agree. Surprised by Zuraya but she's friends with Tannia.

Probably not a big deal for Miranda's MAGA supporters. Others of us don't much like it.

But seriously, even if that is true, it doesn't mean she agrees, right? And she is the one elected, not her husband. Sadly, a lot of people found out they had some serious disagreements with their spouses when Trump got elected. I feel fortunate that didn't happen in our house, but we both have siblings who are MAGA people, which I never, ever would have guessed was possible. Is that disqualifying? I bet all of us know some MAGA people and consider them friends. And for her, what do you want her to do? Get a divorce and break up her family? I'm honestly asking.

I think some of you are being kind of crazy about this. I don't know if she is married to a MAGA person, but if I accept that it's true (which I am willing to do, it does sound like it's the case, but I have not met the man nor read his tweets), that still doesn't affect my thoughts about her because I don't think a person can be or should be held responsible for everything their spouse does.

Do you really think that's a reasonable standard?

Yes. I married someone who shares my same values and doesn’t live to oppress others.

+1. Miranda didn't only marry MAGA, she started a lobbying group with other MAGAs. Who around her isn't MAGA. When the person to the left of you is MAGA, and the person to the right of you is MAGA....

Exactly. She also hasn't publicly denounced anything Youngkin has done. Even the things harmful to APS - e.g., when he first cut the education, LGBTQ attacks, etc.

She chose to vote for someone (Youngkin) who promised to dismantle public schools. And despite donating to Planned Parenthood, she'd probably vote for him again. He is ready to dismantle abortion rights and contraception too!

Yikes to those who defend her.

A one off donation to Planned Parenthood and Miranda's a progressive in everyone's eyes.

Who still voted for Youngkin. Yikes indeed.

She represented them pro bono! totally MAGA, lol

Sources please.

and then voted FOR Youngkin, so doesn't sound like a believer in the cause. Lawyers don't agree with everyone they represent.

How do you know who she voted for?

She has admitted/bragged about it publicly to several people.

Two current members voted against it and both candidates spoke against it.

Where did they speak out? Their Facebook pages or somewhere else?

Zuraya is bragging on her socials about being at the DNC convention. She’s angling for higher office already. Just like many of her predecessors.

I’m voting for Paul. I think we need more former teachers on the board.

Yup. Kathleen and Paul are our best candidates. Too bad ACDC runs this town.

Have you noticed that schools need state and federal funding? Of course SB members should network. This is a plus, unless, of course, you’re an R and have a visceral reaction to the DNC.

She's not even a SB member though, still a candidate. As far as I know, no current SB members are attending the DNC convention.

Gawd I hope Paul is a good campaigner and can break the ACDC's hold on the elections.
