My child's report car said they were getting AAP services but the box for advanced math was not checked. What other AAP services would they be getting? |
Probably LII services or LIII services. LIII is a weekly pull out that is about an hour long. LII is normally something like a specific reading group or harder math sheets. I know what LII looked like at our ES in 1-2 grade but no idea what it looks like once kids are placed in LIII or Advanced Math or LIV. |
Did you already ask their teacher or the AART? |
I just got the report card today, thanks for extremely helpful post. |
My kid has this too. First grade. I don't think they are giving above grade level math yet at her school. The AAP services is Level 2 pull outs. YMMV. |
FWIW, some teachers will give the 'y' for above grade level math on a per-quarter basis in 1st and 2nd (not seen it in K but it could happen). My oldest, who was level II for math at the time, got it in 1st for maybe 2 of the 4 quarters. She didn't in 2nd, but I don't think anyone did. My youngest's most recent report card said she got it in 2nd quarter after not getting it in first. Youngest is not level II for math and has not cleared our school bar for advanced math (>90% on iReady math). My middle never got it despite being level II for math. I think teacher just didn't do it. So it varies wildly, which is annoying if you assume it has to have some impact on the level IV committee decisions. |
Our AART said that box is only for LIV, because that’s the only AAP level that’s accelerated (ie above grade level). Levels II and III are more about depth and complexity, whereas LIV is depth, complexity, and acceleration. Take with a grain of salt, and sounds like it could vary by school, but that’s our AART’s position (Waples Mill ES.) |
