Kid didn’t get into honors at UMD. Would it be worth it for the honors program to go to U Delaware?
Major is undecided but leans toward STEM. |
|
UMD, not even a question.
Honors is nbd, really. -signed parent of a kid at UMD honors |
agree, price alone points to UMD in state. Even if it's the same price, the choice is still probably UMD. |
| Third. UMD Honors has been a total waste of time, frankly. |
|
DD is at an out-of-state flagship. Transferring back to UMD in 2024. Too expensive. Ivote for UMD
|
Why? |
| I would say no. UMD ranked much higher, and, assuming in state, better tuition value. My nephew (DE res) got a fine education at U Del, but he would have gone to UMD had he got in. |
OP’s kid got into UD honors but not UMD honors so I think the question is more about whether UD honors is worthwhile. |
| No it's not worthwhile, University of Delaware. |
|
While I agree with the previous posters that UMD is probably the way to go, but they are looking at it all wrong. Rather than trashing UMD honors, is it worth it to participate and pay OOS for DE honors. After all, that's the program your student was accepted. Whats your students goal? Best job opportunity? Academic curiosity?
|
| UMD is a much better school than Delaware. At the end of the day when the kid is looking for a job, the honors part will not make that much a of a difference. |
|
Depends upon cost difference and one's major as to which school is the better option.
Most honors colleges/programs offer early registration for courses which can make a significant difference during one's undergraduate years at a large school. |

UMD hands down. Honors or LLP or whatever is nbd.
What matters is your major, how well you do in college, and the internships you can get. DMV is a great place to do research assistant, or internships gigs. Especially for a woman. - parent of a kid in UMD Honors. |
| UMD. Excellent in the STEM fields. |
