Tufts tuition

I just looked on their website, and all in, Tufts is $88,300 (including a mandatory 1K health and wellness fee -wtf is that?!?).

Someone please tell me how this is (or any school) is worth almost 90K. What are you exactly getting that you can’t get elsewhere for 1/2 or 1/3 the price?

If people will pay it, then that's what it's worth. Education pricing in the US is driven by the market

I mean I get that, but I’m just curious as to what people who are willing to pay think they’re getting out of it, more so than a much cheaper school.

Can you name a comparable school that costs 29k a year all in? OP said there were schools at the price, but can anyone name one?

It’s crazy and there is no truly rational answer, except if you concede that our society is deeply unfair and what you’re paying for are the connections you make at these elite schools.

It depends on what you mean by comparable. I personally think if you have a motivated kid they’re going to get an excellent education anywhere. Is there a metric that measures quality of education? I’d rather send my kid to a state school (we’re in MD) than pay that price. They’re going to get an excellent education there. And spend a lot less.

I think it’s for the name. Which is why I think spending that much is crazy.

Well, I'm about to pay around $80k for UVA (I live in DC), so it's all relative I suppose. I'm not happy about it, but I recognize the long term value of the brand.

Huh? You know every comparable school costs the same, right? They are all the same price within a $7-8k range.

I don't get the trolls who start these threads. EVERY private college is 85-95K all in. Stop starting these "I can't believe! Is X school worth it?" Let's pile them all in here right now...
Is Tufts, BC, NYU, USC, Villanova, U Miami, U Wash, Pomona, worth it!? I mean, is a Chanel bag worth it?! Thousands of parents can pay these schools full freight and not blink an eye.
If price matters to you, do your value shopping for the college that's in your budget.

Does the OP realize that this is a DC site? What college comparable to Tufts can my DC resident children attend for $30k. Please, tell me so I can stop saving and go on a damn vacation.

No. A Chanel bag isn’t worth it. Unless bragging that you are able to afford it is what gets you going.

But what do you mean by “comparable”? Any state school will give you an excellent education for much cheaper. What exactly are you getting for 2 or 3x the price?
