Don't play naive. But you want to defend the religious and call those that aren't, "retards," that's on you. Take responsibility for your own words. |
| I am (not secretly but no one cares) against the mountain of useless mail I get every day, 95% of which goes right back out via trashcan. And, yes, I've tried cancelling. No one listens. I get two Oprahs! every single month and I never even subscribed to one. And don't get me started on the Christmas catalogues arriving in July. |
Wrong. Not defending anything. Just pointing out how some folks are intellectually compromised when they get rabid. |
OP. Define race please. Is it the one drop theory (of anything)? Is it cultural? I am fairly confident that in the next hundred years few of us will be able to mark only one box. I am in an interracial marriage to some, but my husband always marks Hispanic and White. Two of my kids look Latin, the other one looks completely like me (Anglo). Race is a cultural construct and you can no longer tell just by looking at most people what race or national origin or color skin their parents have............... |

Interfaith marriages and raising kids in both religions until they are old enough to choose
Vegan toddlers Straight people who call their spouse/lover "my partner". |
| Hispanic isn't a race. Do you mean mestizo? |
Not being able to tell someone's race does not mean they don't "have" a race. Your premise is faulty (and from a point of privilege). |
| PP's point is that many people today are mixed race in and of themselves. So in your world of racial purity, are they only allowed to intermarry with others who share their specific pedigree? |
"Race" isn't something that people "have" - it's fluid, and for some people, doesn't exist at all. Someone's "race" isn't something that you get to decide or assume is even a thing for others. It's an incredibly arbitrary and fluid thing to focus on in 2013. |
| Only white people have the luxury of saying race is "fluid". Clueless dolts. |
I'm not white, but yes, race is fluid. Different communities will classify you differently, depending on where they perceive you to fit, compared to them - lighter, darker, more similar, more different, etc. Only bigots think "race" has any kind of natural root, rather than social flux. |
Complexion is fluid, race is not. What is your race? Fluidly speaking of course. |
My parents came from different continents, so I'm pretty mixed - but with an ethnic name, ambiguous looks, people classify me differently depending on context. "Race" is irrelevant, except in a strictly social context. There's no biological basis, but as we move in different social circles, the labels can switch in an instant - because "race" means nothing, unless you find a away to compare it to something else. |
| I oppose donuts without filling. So disappointing. |
Sounds like you're confusing ethnicity with race. |
