A big black Rubbermaid garbage can with lid and wheels. It had one large/heavy bag of garbage inside. Lid was locked and is still locked. It isn’t in an area where it catches wind, and it wasn’t even windy last night.
Would a raccoon even have the strength to knock a can this size and weight over? It’s not as though it was INSIDE, it would have had to have done it from OUTSIDE. |
Where do you live? Black bears have been sighted in surprisingly close-in suburbs. They are not usually active this time of year, but with a warm spell it's not impossible for them to come out... and if they do, they'll be hungry and looking for any easy snacks, as their usual munchies aren't all out yet. Were neighbors' cans knocked down as well?

Several raccoons.
Trash pandas are notorious for working in teams to topple and gain entry to garbage cans. Never underestimate the trash panda!

Could very well be a person who did this OP. On Sunday nights we routinely see a person with a flashlight going through our recycling looking for whatever they can possibly take that will make them a few dollars.
I am confused though about your "lock" What do you mean your lid is locked? Do you mean it's closed tightly or snapped tight using the lip of the lid? |
A person a person did this.
Five-Banded Chupacabra.
Human?
Elephant or leopard would be my guess.
A gang of raccoons, for sure!
Definitely a yeti.
