Both are boomers. One has a sensitive stomach and cannot eat too much bread (but will eat rolls, cinnamon rolls, etc.), anything too spices, or any raw vegetables. DH says we can just eat out or "eat whatever" but I would to be a decent host.
Breakfast - have bagels around, offer to cook eggs and sausage. Should I buy a tray of cinnamon rolls? Lunch - on your own... Or any suggestions for things to have on hand? Sandwiches have too much bread. I could buy chicken soup and have that in the fridge. Dinners: 1 - Stuffed ground beef and ricotta shells baked in tomato sauce. Thinking of roast asparagus on the side. Is this enough food? 2 - Ribs or a beef stew. Cornbread or rolls on the side. Buttered green beans on the side? 3 - I need one more dinner idea please. Maybe a baked potato based meal? What snacks are good to have around? |
| for snacks, nuts, precut cheese, different crackers. |
| All of those dinners seem pretty rich for someone with a sensitive stomach. Can you bake chicken or fish? Roast veggies? |
| Would they eat fish? That on the third day following two red meant centric meals would be good, like with a rice pilaf and steamed broccoli on the side. |

I would go out or order out the last night. Everyone can choose what they like.
I would ask what they typically eat for BF and lunch. |
I forgot about chicken! Any tips for baking breasts? Do I bread them? I usually do just salt and pepper but with bone in skin on thighs. |
+1 asking about breakfast and lunch also ask about beverages People tend to have strong beverage preferences that they depend on - coffee, tea, soda (which brand), milk (whole, skim, almond, etc.), juice (which type), etc. |
| I would add a salad to your first night meal. |

I’d make a pot of soup and buy a container of chicken salad to have on hand for lunches (altho I’d have it serve yourself style). The chicken salad could be eaten as a sandwich, on a wrap or over greens.
Your breakfasts sound good although I wouldn’t make eggs every day just bc that is a lot of cooking - have some yogurts and fruit on hand for the low-bread eater. Your dinner ideas sound great (I, too, would add a simple green salad with the stuffed shells and asparagus). As others said, I’d add a fish option the third night (sheet pan salmon seasoned with evoo, s/p, lemon and fresh herbs, with roasted vegetables and roasted potatoes) or just go out to eat - see how much energy you have that last night! |
| Thanks all for the ideas. MIL loves pecan chicken so I think I will try to make that instead of one of the beef dinners. I like cooking but hare making salad. Maybe will push to spouse haha. |
| Ask them, not us. |
| I think having chicken soup in the fridge as a lunch option is a good idea. Older people like soup! |
