I work 1 mile from home. 5 days on site but for lunch I typically go home.
Friday I got asked why I always leave at lunch. wwyd |
I'd answer that I'm going out to lunch and also ask why they care that I leave at lunch. |
| Say you like a mental breather from the office - sometimes you run errands, go for a walk, call your mom/kids, whatever. A break helps you come back & focus for the afternoon. |
| You like fresh air and exercise. |
| Who asked? If it's your boss then tell them you prefer to eat at home to save money. If it's a a co-worker, Nunya...nunya damm business. |
Pretty much this. |

Are you on the clock if so you punch out who cares.
But most exempt workers don’t take an hour lunch every day. I literally lived across street my office and never did it. |
Oh sigh. Can't win with you, can she? If she pounded through her day and ate at her desk you'd probably wonder why she was leaving "early" |
| You should do whatever you want with your time but FYI, having regular lunches with colleagues (can be BYO and meet in a conf room) is how I keep in touch with people I haven’t seen in a while, find out about things etc. |
NP. I did that by BSing in peoples' offices or my office and still took my own lunch. Most times you'd go to talk to someone about legit work and it would devolve into a gossipfest. |

What would I do? I would say "I go home for lunch" and then stare at them hard.
But you better make sure you aren't taking a longer lunch than what is allowed/expected/what others are taking. |
That's not true? I work in an office and we are all exempt and all go out to lunch daily. Might not stay a full hour every day, might just grab lunch and come back, but I've never asked someone why they leave. |
What a waste of money |
Well, OP is going home so it isn't a waste of money! |
| How long is your lunch? Are you staying within that time period? Walking 2 miles + eating would not fit into my lunch period. |
