My son is good about putting his batting gloves in their storage bag but apparently should’ve been letting them air out too! They smell!
I’d like to donate them as they’re Bruce Bolts in relatively good shape (his hands just grew) but would like to get rid of the odor first. I did buy the spray that BB recommends but I can’t say it was too successful. Any suggestions? |

Ok I had to look it up, it sounds like they’re “Cabretta leather” which is sheepskin?
I would try washing them in Outback Gold, which is a mild soap for wool/sheep skin. Basically it’s a gentle detergent with no enzymes and lanolin. If you don’t have that I’d try Soak or Eucalan or whatever you have around for washing delicates. |

For the future - put dryer sheets inside the gloves at night. Also I use a portable boot dryer to get fresh air on them after most wears - https://www.amazon.com/AIWOTOWOW-Electric-Portable-Adjustable-Foldable/dp/B071D9THPT/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=16TB5APZ47S64&keywords=portable+boot+dryer&qid=1706558133&sprefix=portable+boot+d%2Caps%2C123&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
(This method works for almost any sporting equipment that fits over the dryer and/or can hold a dryer sheet) |
| We use the spray recommended by Bruce Bolt and it helps. I also buy the charcoal odor removers and he keeps them inside the gloves. My son loves these gloves and they do hold up much better than others, but they do stink like nobody's business. |

Stink sticks. Or those little balls you put in shoes.

Just bought these for both of my boys. Now I'm worried as the season hasn't even started. Hopefully they won't stink as badly as football gloves. I keep those in a ziploc bag. |
We’ve had a couple pairs of Bruce bolts, and my husband has the golf glove version. We’ve never had an issue with it stinking! That being said, don’t let your kid keep it in the bottom of their baseball bag lol. |
| We’ve also never had an issue with them stinking. Also disagree with them holding up better than regular gloves. We’ve had multiple pairs and they don’t last an entire season. But it’s what the kids want, so here we are. |
No air them out! No wonder. |

OP here. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I should clarify that when I say they smell, it’s not as if the smell radiates from a distance (thank goodness!). But when I put to my nose, there’s definitely an odor. They smell like a beagle, if you know that scent! This was his first pair and they lasted 2 seasons and would’ve kept going had they not been too small. One friend’s pair both smelled and tore. They’re definitely not inexpensive. Just trying to de-beagle them so I can pass them to someone else! |
| Batting gloves are not really meant to last more than a season or two, so passing them on to someone else when they’re crunchy and sweaty seems a little gross. |

I think you should try washing them.
If they smell, it’s smelly bacteria that has grown in there. Airing out and sprays are preventative measures. Yours are already in trouble, so wash them and see if you can reverse it. If they’re ruined, well, they were already ruined so that’s that. |
You needn’t accept them then 😬 |
I will never understand why people keep their BB batting gloves in those stupid pouches. It seems designed to make sure anyone who missed that they were Bruce Bolt will notice because of their VERY IMPORTANT POUCH. Air them out and they won't stick. Also, I'd rather have whatever $30 batting gloves I can pick up at Dick's than someone's used Bruce Bolts, stinky or not.

Exactly, it’s not very hygienic! Why people think that someone wants old, sweaty, crunchy gloves donated to them is beyond me. |
