2.5 km race next weekend

Anonymous
I am training for a half marathon in May and noticed a 2.5km surge race next weekend, which I might do. I never do races but I exercise regularly. I have been running more, including doing interval training. What pace should I make as my goal if I do the race?

Do you have a best mile time? What’s your usual long run pace? Alternatively go by HR…for a distance this short you should be pushing close to your max.

I dunno. Faster than your 5km PR? You don't give us any data to be able to help you.

If I was doing this I would go out 10-20 seconds/mile faster than my assumed 5K pace at the time and by 1000m reassess if it’s sustainable and I’m not going to blow up and start to go faster or back off a little.

I used to be a sprinter, so the long distance training is new to me. At my age right now, maybe 5.25/km. I know it’s not fast, but at least I am training!

I just re-read the race description. It’s a 5km race, 2.5km in a mall, twice.
