Nirvana, Metallica, Tupac and Biggie Tees for kids under 10

I know these are in, I am curious if you think they are appropriate for school or if teachers are judging the parents for the young kids wearing them.

They're fine depending where you live. We live in San Francisco - a teacher might demand to know a kid's favorite Metallica song and album if they're going to wear the shirt, but certainly won't judge the parents for anything but introducing the kids to good music.

I wouldn't allow any that have hard swear words but mine wore things like Nirvana and Metallica. Waited to HS to allow more. Took my kids to concerts too. Groupon/lawn seats are great for that age.

I’m not following, why would the kids be judged for this? Teachers don’t like good music?

I assume they’d be judged if it seems like the parents bought it to look cool when the kid has never even heard the music. But if your kid actually likes the music then I don’t see a problem

I find it really cringey to see little kids or babies wearing shirts with band names on them. Especially the ones op is talking about. But even worse is seeing little kids or babies with shirts/apparel displaying their parents political points of view.

I have asked kids over 10 who are wearing a nirvana or metallica t-shirt about the respective bands; a sizable number have no idea of the underlying music or the bands/individual muscians. (I can see the music and legacy of tupac and biggie being a bit more in these kids' cultural awareness.)

So, I don't think teachers see wearing the shirt as having any connection to the music; only an affinity to the design on the shirt.

I don't judge the kid at all. I think at that age it can come off as try hard on the part of the parents, who most likely bought the shirt. But I mean, people do that with sports teams too, and kids get into it. I could see a 7 yr old liking Metallica.

My 7 year old likes metallica - heard enter sandman playing in car and asked to listen to more songs. Never thought about getting him a tshirt but maybe i should. Why would anyone have negative feelings about this?

Kids who wear such clothing are poseurs trying to look cool.

Yes.

I wouldn't judge the kid. I would judge the parents and pity the kid.

Really? You wonder why "anyone would have negative feelings about this", which says a lot about your (in)ability to think outside yourself. Think about this - would my, or anyone's, elderly grandparents be able to put that into context? Nope. I do care what message that sends to the community even if others don't and even if I like the music. We do live in a society.

My 10 year old DD wanted a Nirvana tee. My condition was us listening to Nirvana on the way to her practice. She has the tee and likes Nirvana now- win win

What are you on about? It is just a band. I hope you get the help you need.
