Why wasn’t CPS involved?

Some of the doctors who examined Gypsy had found no evidence of the disorders Dee Dee claimed. Further more, family members suspected Dee Dee of harming Gypsy and even poisoning her own stepmother. Doctors are mandated reporters in every state. Did they not report or something?

Combo of falling through the cracks and expert manipulation by the mother. Whenever someone would get suspicious, she’d change doctors or move towns/parrishes. She drugged gypsy and coached her to lie.

Children remain in very abusive situations because their parents lie. CPS has rules they must abide by and judges have left children with abusive parents and the parents have gone on to abuse, maim, and even kill their children with no remorse. Some people are extremely manipulative and have no problem lying to CPS, courts, judges, family, friends, teachers, neighbors. There are people in this world that operate on a different system that normal people don’t understand because normal people can’t imagine the depth of depravity that can exist in the human mind.

Then there are CPS that are burned out or don’t care. The system is broken and overwhelmed.

They're from Louisiana and moved states. DeeDee would tell doctors that Gypsy's medical records were destroyed in Katrina.

There are many kids that fall through the cracks by the hands of CPS. Unfortunately, many kids are hurt and die. It’s sad. We don’t value our kids. We don’t value their lives and we don’t value their education. We spend on Stanley cups but don’t pay teachers and don’t spend on mental health.

CPS workers are given huge caseloads and have very little time to spend on individual cases. They are not trained detectives and no, they are not trained to identify manipulations and lies.

I suggest you start with the Buzzfeed article about the case. It's considered to be the primary source from which the movies, etc. were made and was meticulously researched.

There's not much "if" about it, OP. The evidence is damning -- read the Buzzfeed article.

Sick and twisted people can find a way to work the system, or work around it, with enough cunning and incentive. The mother raised a lot of money through lying, cheating, and manipulation, but the worst of her sins was stealing away her own daughter's childhood. She was a real piece of work, and she'll be remembered with loathing.

OP, I say this gently, but it sounds like you are incredibly ignorant of the CPS system. Somebody who is familiar with it wouldn’t ask this question. It is great that you are trying to learn more but please don’t doubt child abuse victims just because CPS didn’t stop the abuse or investigate.

Didn’t read the article or watch the film but did watch the documentary. I thought the doc didn’t go into enough detail on this piece. Gypsy Rose had multiple surgeries based on what? Her mom’s description of symptoms with no actual evidence or diagnosis of disease? It just blows my mind.

She gave her child medications that induced symptoms, for one thing. Other parents committing Munchausen by Proxy have been seen on video to smear feces into IV ports and wounds, inject bleach or Draino into skin, and other things you could never imagine. Who knows the whole story? The daughter could walk, and had no muscle wasting (as noted in the article), so she WAS walking. Her mother forbid her from doing it in front of other people and to just stay in the wheelchair.
