At the Curriculum Night, they said they would post the presentation. I haven't seen it. Has anyone received an email from them with the presentation or know where this was posted online? My kid wasn't able to attend due to a game but she wants to see what the presentation said. |
I would post in the FCPS forum. I know Carson emailed a presentation out to all of the parents, maybe search your email. Or email your kids Teacher and ask for a copy to be sent to you. Or ask some friends of fellow sixth graders. |
I don't understand the difference they mentioned regarding Honors classes and AAP classes. I get that Level IV students are automatically placed in AAP classes at registration, but they said that Longfellow is an "all Honors" schools yet they say that non-AAP "... students and families self-select classes in areas of strength or interest" If it's all Honors classes, what are the students choosing exactly? Any parents with kids at Longfellow, who can answer this? I have a AAP kid and a non-AAP kid entering next year. |
Thank you. |
It means that a non AAP kid can choose to elect honors classes, as my kids did. My daughter is in all honors classes and when my son was at Longfellow he was in Algebra in 7th and honors for rest of the subjects. Both were non AAP students. |
So there really isn't a "self select" choice if I'm understanding what you're saying. You are automatically placed into all Honors classes for the subject areas, except for Math, where you can take regular non-honors 7th math. For English, Science, and Social Studies, there is no "regular" class being offered, since it's an all Honors school. Do I have this right? |
Any insight into the World Languages at Longfellow and workload? How is French for non-immersion students? Spanish? |
NP with another question... For Spanish 1A, is that a full year course or half year course? What about Spanish 1B?
One person we asked made it seem like 1A was a half year course, and 1B was a half year course as well? But then I heard 1B is a full year course? Can someone help? Thanks! |
1A and 1B are each full year at Longfellow so two years total |
Thank you. So if my kid takes orchestra and Spanish 1A and 1B, then they don't have a chance to take other electives right?
He is leaning towards taking Spanish 1 in 8th grade so he can an elective in 7th. Are there any electives that you highly recommend? He's not into art, but is into computers/tech. |
Adding that Longfellow also has Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in addition to 1A and 1B |
Can a parent of Longfellow kid confirm this? The thread got highjacked about world language. ![]() |
