I don't understand the difference they mentioned regarding Honors classes and AAP classes. I get that Level IV students are automatically placed in AAP classes at registration, but they said that Longfellow is an "all Honors" schools yet they say that non-AAP "... students and families self-select classes in areas of strength or interest" If it's all Honors classes, what are the students choosing exactly? Any parents with kids at Longfellow, who can answer this? I have a AAP kid and a non-AAP kid entering next year.
It means that a non AAP kid can choose to elect honors classes, as my kids did. My daughter is in all honors classes and when my son was at Longfellow he was in Algebra in 7th and honors for rest of the subjects. Both were non AAP students.
So there really isn't a "self select" choice if I'm understanding what you're saying. You are automatically placed into all Honors classes for the subject areas, except for Math, where you can take regular non-honors 7th math. For English, Science, and Social Studies, there is no "regular" class being offered, since it's an all Honors school. Do I have this right?
Can a parent of Longfellow kid confirm this? The thread got highjacked about world language. :) The one non-AP kid I have probably wouldn't do well in all Honors classes, so hoping he has another option available to him for the core subjects.
