weird breakfast sausage from WF

Anonymous
I got one of those plastic packages of loose breakfast sausage from Whole Foods and it was really weird compared to before. The raw texture was really smooth, not ground at all. Then when it cooked it appeared to have no fat at all and cooked up into dry rubbery pucks. (I was trying to make sausage patties). It is almost like WF/Amazon changed the product to use a different cut of pork with no fat? Anyway, it was gross!

I know what you mean and agree.

Tangential, I also am disappointed that WF stopped carrying raw tubes of breakfast sausage (the kind you use a wooden spoon to crumble as it cooks) in chicken (they still have pork).

Did you microwave it? You have to cook those things on the stove top or they get dried out and rubbery.

I recently got 365 pork and maple syrup sausage links (pre cooked) and they were fine.

I made the patties in the frying pan. I could see there was literally zero fat coming out and the meat was white instead of browning nicely. This is a totally different product from pre-cooked links.

Whole Foods also has (ground in store?) balls of both breakfast sausage with sage and Italian sausage at the butcher shop area. Three balls are about a pound. Try that instead.

Did you buy the vegan sausage by mistake?
