3 repeated miscarriages is it time for IVF?

Three repeated miscarriages. Feeling discouraged. Met with an REI and no underlining causes. Have been tested for the usual suspects and took progesterone and thyroid meds with this last pregnancy. Is it time for IVF?

How old are you? I've had 2 miscarriages ( and several failed iui) - have 1 kid but starting ivf as I figure at my age ( 39) my eggs are not great and ivf can help select the better ones

Nah, my mom had like 7 or 8 before her pregnancy with my older brother "stuck". Keep going!

How far along were they?

What is the story with your thyroid? What is your tsh? How closely is it being monitored?

Were they early ie before six weeks? If so it’s less worrisome and more likely to be just natural selection. I had two around 6 weeks and decided to go ivf but I was 37 so calculation was different. I ended up having three kids (2 ivf and one not). At your age if they were early I would give it another year or so.

They have all been measuring anywhere from 6-8 weeks but should have been measuring closer to 10 weeks with most of them based of LMP.

IVF helps you get pregnant. You have that covered, and you are still young. Your issue is to stay pregnant. I would meet with a RE who will address that, otherwise the same might happen even with IVF. Do you have any underlying conditions like PCOS or endometriosis?

RE told me IVF would increase my chances of staying pregnant due to picking out genetically healthy embryos

Did they test the tissue to determine whether your miscarriages are due to chromosomal anomalies?

Did you try injecting Lovenox the whole time while pregnant? That works for many. The tiny blood vessels are helped by the thinned blood. More blood flow is always a good thing. Plus, do the progesterone and even very high doses of folic acid. (plus, multi vitamin). You can try again but your concoctions of meds and monitoring by your thyroid doctor is critical. Were you on Synthroid? The fourth time worked for me with all these med changes. Hugs to you. It’s a lot, I know. Also, try switching to an RE who performs research in this area of recurrent miscarriage. Take a visit to one of the leading experts who are researching in this topic. Even if it’s a flight away. They can monitor you from a far in conjunction with your local doctors.

Thank you! I will bring this up in my next appointment. Yes I’ve been seen by a regular endo for the past ten years for hypothyroid. Was on Armour thyroid and then switched to Synthroid when we started TTC. Don’t love Synthroid but following what was recommended by my endocrinologist and our RE agreed. Figured I could switch back once we finally were able to have a child but that hasn’t happened yet unfortunately.

Not yet. I’m currently pregnant with the third pregnancy but waiting to miscarry based off recent ultrasound. Will save the tissue this time for testing
