| has anyone had this happen? what did you do? my head is on fire. |
| Go to the ER or urgent care they will give you IV depakote, or steroids, and it will stop. Triptans wont stop a migraine if not taken in the first 15 minutes. If this happens more than four days a month you should be on a daily preventive medication. |

Agree with PP about going to urgent care to treat this migraine.
However, I successfully transitioned from one triptan to another when the first one I was prescribed stopped working. Lots of meds lose efficacy over time. After you address this migraine, make an appointment with your regular doctor and discuss options. Triptans are not the only options, for sure, but also just because this one stopped working doesn't mean this category of medication doesn't work for you, especially if they have previously worked for you. |
| Yes, that has happened to me. They ended up injecting me with more triptans and something relaxing (valium?). Go get help. |
| Triptans dont work for all patients or all headaches. If you have a headache specialist, they may be able to give an injection of Tiraspol. If you don’t have a specialist or can’t get in to see yours, the ER for IV meds may be your best option. |
| Don’t bother with the er. You can take two a day depending on what. I usually do 60 ibuprofen with my imitrex. Call your neurologist. |
Trigrams will stop it if it’s the right medication for you, but it will take longer. It can take an hour or two for it to work. |

I’ve had migraines for over 20 years and triptans eventually stopped working for me. I switched to a daily preventative and now take Sprix as an abortive.
I’ve also had success in a pinch by going to urgent care for steroids (5-day pack) which kill the migraine by stopping the inflammation that is the cause. Not a long-term treatment option, but I’ve done it a handful of times, usually while traveling. I try to avoid the ER at all costs. |
Oh, speaking of other options -- I have used Celebrex (anti-inflammatory) off label to help stop a migraine if I didn't catch it with my triptan early enough to prevent it from getting full blown. The Celebrex was originally prescribed for something else, but my neurologist approved it for this use and wrote me a new scrip for it. I do not like taking daily medication so I'm committed to making triptans work if possible (which they do about 90% of the time for me). Switching triptans and using Celebrex as an assist if they are stubborn has worked for me thus far. |
| it could be not migraine but pressure headache. that's what i had for over 20 years, but official diagnoses was a migraine. |
What’s a pressure headache? |
