DE credits at MC and HS schedule

My child wants to take the world languages requirement at MC next year instead of his local high school. Will he still have 7 periods at the high school or 6 since he will be taking one class at MC?

First you need to apply to a dual enrollment program. Reglar dual enrollment( take hs and de classes) is currently full but full time de programs have openings. Also they need to be in 11th or 12th grade. If a full time dual enrollment program isn’t for your child they could take the would language classduring summer.

He can do either. If he is taking the class after school hours, he can technically keep all 7 classes. If he wants to take 1 off, it is ok as well. He just needs to discuss with his counselor.

He does not need to wait until his junior or senior to do dual enrollment. He can start taking classes his freshman years. He may be limited to the type of classes he can take due to his schedule. Classes at MC are offered via distance learning and remote as well. I would encourage you to contact the DEPA (Dual Enrollment Program Assistant) at your school.

I personally don’t think a counselor, would take a class off the schedule especially for 9th and 10th grader because they have no way of knowing if you are failing the class or are not in the class. In dual enrollment programs there is a advisor who meet with students and can check their grades to confirm they are actually doing their work.
