Gym 5x per week: 1 day cardio (30 minutes and some stretching), 1 day stretching (active recovery, 50 minute class), 1 day Pilates mat, 2 days strength training. What do you think? |
That good |
Completely depends on your goals. Lose weight? Lose fat? Gain muscle? Lose fat and gain muscle at the same time? |
Not OP. My goal is to gain muscle and lose fat so I’m doing weights 3x/week and taking mind/body classes (yoga, Pilates or stretch) 2x/week for balance and recovery. I don’t want to lose weight so I’m skipping the cardio. I’m happy with my results, YMMV. |
If that’s sustainable for you, it sounds good. If you’re out of shape and this is a NY goal I’d go a bit more slowly so you don’t burn out. |
I don’t understand what your “active recovery, 50 min class” is. |
Me neither. With that routine there is not that much to recover from either. |
Cardio does not have all that much to do with losing or gaining. It can help with extra calorie burn when cutting, but you can easily compensate for almost any cardio by eating more. I would incorporate some purely for cardiovascular health. |
Thank you for saying this...when will people understand...you don't do cardio to lose weight. To lose weight, stop putting things in your mouth! If you want to be fit and healthier, do some cardio. |
DP: in my barre class we do active recovery which is basically active stretching as you cool down but still keeping your heart rate up a bit. |
Yea. Do it 3 weeks and journal weight, feeling, whatever measures you want.
After 3 weeks, assess. |
