Anyone know whether rising freshmen will be able to take Honors Health A and B in same year in 10th grade? What about rising sophomores ‘27? Is this an option for next year? Or is space still an issue for B?
Are kids still Required to wait until 10th grade to take health or can it be done in 9th or summer school after 8th? What a mess these health classes have been for ‘25 and ‘26. |
| My kid took health a last summer online after 8th. No idea what you are talking about. They did not offer b online, in person only. |
| My current sophomore is taking Health A and B this year. Seems like the de facto scheduling. |
| Thank you. And for those who don’t know, MCPS used to not allow what is now Health A until 10th grade - I assume due to maturity of topic. I think this rule was still in effect for current 12th graders. Many of the high school websites still list 10th grade as a prerequisite. |
| Last year’s registration cards at our hs didn’t allow health a or b in 9th (and seem to presume PE will be taken in 9th) and only Health A for 10th. I assume that was a space issue though to not allow Health B for 10th graders because the juniors needed it. |
There was probably no time in the schedule if you take PE. Mine did it last summer, before 9th, no issue and will do it next summer too. They don't offer PE in the summer so that's probably why. |

Our HS would not allow this last year. Most kids do these classes in the summer online. A pain but makes for way easier scheduling.
You can take health A at any time but there seemed to be rules on health B. |
| The initial recommendation was for Health B to be taken 11th/12th. Its supposed to be to better align topics with kids age/maturity/life. That said, my understanding is that kids can take either anytime after 8th, however many schools are still prioritizing upper grade students because there is still like about 30% of rising seniors who have not taken it and not sure what % of class of 2026 still need to take it. It’s been a mess for classes ‘24 through ‘26. |
Not ‘24 - ‘24 was thankfully not required to take B. Total shit show for ‘25 and definitely problematic for ‘26 with the offering limitations. |
| Op here - the reason I was asking is because it didn’t make sense for my rising 9th grade to do PE next year if the Health classes were still being split btw 10th and 11th as one semester classes. If that were still case, I’d have DC push off PE to be the second semester to pair with each of those one semester classes in 10th and 11th. But sounds like that won’t be an issue anymore. |
| It seems like some schools are having students do A and B across a full year, but others may not be. Probably best to see what your particular school's practices are. |
I was thinking about this, too! |
| Wish the state would stop pushing these useless requirements. |
Honors Health? That has to be a typo right? |
| My DS who is a junior now, took both sections of health as a sophomore last year. He really hated "Honors" Health B and felt like it was a waste of time, but he got through the requirement. |
