| I feel like all the Big3 kids I know are 3.9+ and being accepted to elite schools or 3.5 and below and being accepted to less competitive options . What about the 3.7-3.8 kids this fall? Do you know where they've been admitted? |
Why are there so many 3.9+? What about grade deflation? |
| 3.7 and 3.8 is the sweet spot for the safety Ivies like Cornell and Brown. |
| Ask again in April. Asking that now is only getting ED and some EA data. |
I thought there was grade deflation but if you look at SCOIR data you really need a 3.9+ to get into a top 20 school. Maybe this is Covid inflation? Are the 3.7-3.8 GPAs to Cornell and Brown from this year or last year? (2023 or 2024?) Where are the 3.7-3.8's actually getting in this year (or even last year)? I really it's early but there have to be plenty of them out there. Anyone know? |
| Our SCOIR only shows up through 2023. Won't know this until next year. |
| Seriously they need a 3.9+ to get into a top 20? I didn’t think there were that many kids landing that gpa |
Or generally a quite strong gpa (but not necessarily a 3.9 or most rigorous courses across the board) and being recruited for a sport, so that’s part of the numbers. Though at DS’s school there’s a lot of overlap of high gpa and some other hook (high gpa, strong athletic recruit and urm, or a top academic with 3.95+ gpa and highest rigor classes and double legacy). |
Nope. Based on SCOIR data from our school (GDS or Sidwell), a student was admitted to Princeton with a 3.7. This is within the last 3 years. You may need a higher GPA at other privates. |
unhooked? The "unhooked" line at our private is pretty much a 3.9 for top 20's. |
Yes, unhooked. I don’t know her test scores or ECs. |
Then that would be Sidwell. |
Bingo! |
There was a hook, not based on grades. |
| My DC had a 3.82 and was accepted to a top 10 school as a legacy. 35 ACT and max rigor in all classes. Not a great Freshman year due to Covid but great since then. |
