Versed amnesia

Anonymous
Had a FET today and it was supposed to be under twilight sedation - which in the past has meant propfol/fentanyl in drip.

I was hooked on fluids to get my bladder full and at some point a fellow came in and gave me a dose of versed. I asked what it was for and was told just for anxiety before the procedure. I said are we using this instead of anesthesia? Said no no the anesthesiologist will be back in a second. I was in a pre op room.

That's the very last thing I remember. Unlike my other procedures under anesthesia I don't remember talking to the anesthesiologist or my Dr prior to, I don't remember walking or being wheeled over to the procedure room, getting on the bed, having the anesthesia IV hooked up . None of it.

I don't remember talking to anyone from embryology. I just woke up in recovery/half thinking I was still waiting to go in but also realizing I was in a different room and in a bed vs chair from pre op.

I asked to see my Dr to verify she did the procedure and it went well and she said she did that she talked to me before and in pre op and everything went well. But I just don't remember anything. I'm so worried about this for some reason.

I've been in situations in the past where I've been given something taken advantage of and have a hard time remembering and I think it's just triggering all of that. Ironic because part of the anesthesia was to prevent me from being triggered from the pain of inserting the speculum and being "open" with people on the room.

I'm feeling a little disappointed it wasn't explained in detail what was happening

I’ve had versed before and have had different levels of amnesia from almost none to full amnesia. I can see it being unsettling if you didn’t expect it. But the propophol causes amnesia to some degree too in many people.

Why on earth would you need any anesthesia, even conscious sedation for a FET? Did you request it? Which clinic was it?

There is another post on it. Really don't want to get into it again..it was recommended by my Dr and I agreed for several reasons. I just had no idea the anesthesiologist would use versed as I haven't had that for prior anesthesia needs. I truly can't remember anything

Thank you for sharing. Oh I wish they had mentioned this. It's quite jarring and I can't shake this uncomfortable feeling. But trying not to stress because I want this to work.

Last time I had prop I certainly didn't remember anything from falling asleep to waking up but I remembered everything leading up to it even conversions being had as I fell asleep. I'm just bummed this wasn't discussed. I honestly have no idea why I was even given it. I wasn't anxious prior to the procedure. I wish I remembered my talks with my doctor I hate to reach out and ask her to review what happened with me but I'm not sure anything else will make me feel better

Yeah I'd just shoot her a note in the portal and ask her if she can review how the procedure went (I'm not familiar with that procedure, sorry) since you have some amnesia and don't remember what she said to you during. That's a pretty normal request I think.

If you have to have this (or any) procedure again be sure to ask what they are giving you if they come to give you something in pre op because different centers/doctors sometimes have different routines. You can always decline and say you don't like how versed makes you feel, or that you aren't anxious and don't need anything. They'll just shrug and return or waste the med, they don't care.
