I did a 1 mile PR today!

Anonymous
Started running Summer 2021. My last PR was 10:30 in June 2022. Came here for advice and started intervals. Ran for fun (no goals) between Fall 2022 and Fall 2023. Increased my distance from 5k to 10k in Fall 2023. Decided to do a mile run to see where I am today and kept the treadmill at 6.0 but increased to 6.4 in the last minute. So about a 9:55 mile.

I'm very happy with this!

Good work. Do you run only on the treadmill or outdoors too?

I disagree! Sounds like great progress to me…and you broke the 10 min mile. Go you! Keep it up.

Great job! Ignore the Pp- I’m sure whatever his PR mile time is could be blown away by someone else out there. That’s why they’re called PRs.

Congratulations! The bad truth about exercise is that progress is almost always slower than you hope. The good news is that you can continue to improve for much longer than you think. If you keep it up for another year, you'll likely see continued improvement.

Well done OP! Ignore the dork above.

Like you, I ran for the first time 30 minutes non-stop since college in July of 2021. I did a fair bit of running in undergrad, but nothing crazy, and nothing over 6-8 miles. I have not tried a 1-mile PR, but according to Garmin, my 1-mile PR is during the run leg of a local DMV sprint triathlon where I managed a t10 overall and won my age-group.

Its amazing what you can do with consistency and perseverance. And with running especially, usually, more volume without injury translates into a lot of run economy and speed.

Keep cranking and have fun!

OP here.

I prefer the outdoors but will do treadmill if it's very windy, very cold, raining, or as a warm-up to lift weights.

DCUM is so weird that I post this yesterday AM, get one response, then someone says "that sucks" and I get 10 responses in a day. Thank you "that sucks" poster for bumping my thread!
