I’m at a point in my life where I just want to make more money. What should I do next? Get an MBA? Switch the sales?
Any ideas would be helpful |
| Start a consulting business where small companies hire you to either manage their programs ad hoc or have you audit their current program management process. |
| What are you making now and what is "more"? |
I make 100k working at a credit union. I'd like to make 150k+ |
If you become an IT program manager and get a PMP certification you can make $150 with a contractor. |
| Also, if you think you would like it construction Program managers make $150+, you'd have to go in as a PM assistant at your current salary, but you would be at $150 in 3 years. |
This was going to be my suggestion as well. My brothers all work in construction management and there's a lot of money to be made |
Contractors are basically self employed. You have to pay self employment taxes (around 10 to 12% of your income); you get no disability or unemployment insurance; you have to pay for your own healthcare. Pros: your "employer" (you) can contribute money into your 401k, so you can get double dipping - your contribution + your "employer" contribution. All that can add up to about 50% of your income (includes income tax, not just self employment income tax). -long time self employed independent contractor. |
| Move to pharma/biotech, but be prepared to work harder and longer in return. |
| State or county govt finance role |
Fintech. |
Do you need any background in construction or architecture? |
One was a builder in the Navy and the other went through a year long apprenticeship program. He is now in his early 30s and manages the building of massive skyscraper-esque buildings in downtown Chicago. He works 7am-3pm, picks his kids up from school, and loves it. |
| ^adding the apprenticeship did pay a decent amount |
| Switch fields, Credit unions are known to be stable but pay low |
