I have a raw part of my skin and it hurts. It’s around my vagina - I get extra “goopy” two weeks before my period, which was last week, and I think the extra goopiness is related to the red raw skin now.
It hurts to sit. It hurts to wipe. My ob/gyn doesn’t have any openings until Jan 29. My primary care doctor doesn’t have any openings until Jan 2. What can I do NOW for this? Thank you! |
| diaper cream |

Hmm. Has this never happened before? Why would it be related to your goopiness if your goopiness happens every month anyway?
Have your tried putting Vaseline or some sort of ointment on the raw skin in the meantime? I would probably also sit in a warm sitz bath too to promote healing. Would there have been some source of friction- new underwear? Vigorous sex? |
| Second diaper cream. The clear one A & D. |
| I don't want to freak you out but are sure you don't have a herpes sore there? Urgent care can also take a look. |

Thank you all so much! Diaper cream is a brilliant idea!

Sounds like a fungal infection. Do you wear cotton under wear? If your skin is wet all the time fungus thrives. You could try OTC creams while waiting to be seen.
Looks like you could see a dermatologist on Tuesday here: https://restondermatology.com/dermatology-appointment-online-booking/ |
Your Gyn should really have appointments for urgent situations like this. Consider getting a new one after you get fixed up. |
| A&D ointment (store brand is fine too). By the other diaper ointments. Great for any chafing down there. |
| Does OP mean vulva? |
| Sitz bath with Epsom salt. Soak for 15 minutes. Gently blow dry area. Apply ointment/diaper cream with a q tip. Sleep in a night gown without underwear. |
| I think you should try to send an email to your gyn or talk to the triage nurse at the practice - they should fit you in sooner for STD and other infection screening, especially if you aren't done having kids. |
| That can be a sign of a yeast infection. Have you tried the usual OTC anti-fungals? |
| Sitz bath with Epsom salt. Soak for 15 minutes. Gently blow dry area. Apply ointment/diaper cream with a q tip. Sleep in a night gown without underwear |
| Hibiclens chlorhexidine wash, rinse well. This will kill fungus, virus and bacteria. Pat dry, apply a barrier cream until healed, vaseline or diaper cream. Use non soap cleanser like Cetaphil, but repeat the hibiclens every day or two, then three, then weekly, then monthly. |
