A neighbor is having work done on her house, well she has contractors in trucks parking all along the street and some in front of our homes. They can't park in her driveway because it's long and narrow and there is no space in front of her house bc she parks her other car there.
Just deal with it? |
|
You mean they’re parked on the street in front of your home?
Get a grip. Of course they can park there unless they’re blocking your driveway. You’re not entitled to exclusive use of the street in front of your house. FFS. |
|
No. No. No. No. Don't just deal with it.
Lead a protest. Undertake Hunger Strike. Call the cops and media. Pay goons to harass her and the contractors. Spread nails on the road. Talk trash about her on social media. That's what you are supposed to do. |
| You don’t own the street in front of your home. Anyone can park there. Am I misunderstanding your post? |
| Yes of course, it's a public street. |
| Clearly this isn’t a permanent situation, and it’s clear they need access to their house for work trucks. Be an actual decent human and just ignore. Nothing you could do anyway, you don’t own the street. |
| Oh okay, I didn't realize homeowners didn't have some quasi ownership of the street right in front of their home. What would prevent anyone and everyone to park on the street in front of your house and block your beautiful view then? No law against that? |
Yes. this. Watch The Big Lebowski and model your behavior on John Goodman's character, when he teaches little Larry a lesson. |
Nope, no law against that. It is a public street and anyone can park there. Do you think people who live in big cities only park in front of their own houses? I get that it is annoying and admit that I don't like it either, but it is what it is and the price we pay for having neighbors. Sounds like it will be a temporary situation for you. |
+1 I’m trying to understand. |
Ah fooled!!! This is a troll, folks. |
You're getting the snarky blowback I expected you'd get when I read the post. I won't be snarky since I get it; it's a pain if you park on the street yourself and for week after week there are no spaces there. But it's only that, a pain in the backside, and it's temporary, OP. These are contractors. Their vehicles will be gone once the work is done. Plus, you have a driveway, too, right? So likely this isn't affecting your ability to park your car, it's just a temporary nuisance. Imagine living in her house right now with a ton of random workers coming and going and possibly rooms torn up and unliveable. That's worse than just dealing with contractor parking for a while. |
|
Well done, OP.
This is one of DCUM *most favorite* topics! |
The beautiful view was a step too far. They could have kept this going, otherwise. |

The neighborly thing to do is to inform the neighbor that you are having construction done and the cars and trucks might be parked in front of the neighbors' home, not driveway. This is especially important when the work will take more than 1 day.
So, it's important to at least say hi to the neighbors if you are anti social. So, if the neighbor did not inform you ahead of time, oh well, you can still go chat and ask how long the work will be. 4 days? 4 weeks? That's a big difference. What I don't get is neighbors that don't have a car and rarely get visitors and still annoyed that you temporarily park in front of their house that is not in the driveway. |
