We couldn't apply early decision 1 because of a job change. Now that that's taken care of, DS is going to apply ED2 to one of BU, NEU or BC. Wants to do a comp sci major. The usual stats...3.85UW, 4.3 weighted. Good, not great, EC's. One LOR should be really good, the other normal good. Took the sat 4 times, so composite score of 1530, 780 Math, 750 Reading.
Really wants to go to school in Boston. His guidance counselor told him based on the students that MIT takes out of his high school, don't even bother applying. Not really expecting any aid based on the NPC. |
| Can you look at Naviance and see what looks possible? |
| His guidance counselor told him he'll be a strong candidate for all of them. They don't show Naviance to the kids, but will only tell them chances with a lot of "buts" and "ifs". We're just trying to figure out which one would be best for him. Of course, he says he wants to be a video game creator, and I know nothing of what that entails. And to be quite honest, I doubt that he knows what it takes to do that either. He only plays tons of video games, he doesn't try to code any. |
| I don’t think bc is known for comp sci.?? |

Northeastern for CS |
+1. No doubt. |
I kind of hate the Northeastern experience. I think your kid would really have to love the moving around and internships, etc. I have a niece who loved it and my kid absolutely not interested. Even though BU and BC are very different, my kid has them both on his list. |
Sounds a lot like my kid last year from NOVA. 3.96/1560 BC: did not apply NEU: EA deferred to RD and then WL BU: applied RD (12/1) scholarship deadline. Rather than CS, he applied data science (figured they needed to fill that gigantic new building. ACCEPTED w/$25k merit. Currently CS major at UMD |
| Also I think he should throw in an application at MIT -- you never know! |
PP@19:25. Don't mean to hi jack, but that was my kid's intenion last year. However took one look at that application and said, "I think I'll apply to Harvard instead".

| ED2 to Northeastern and don't look back |
| Boston University, especially with the addition of the new Center for Computing & Data Sciences building, holds significant potential, in my opinion. |
|
Northeastern's Co-Op program places tons of students in FAANG, Tesla, Microsoft, every year. Their pipeline is deep.
BU is trying. BC just lost their CS director. Northeastern, and not even close. |
| Not exactly in Boston (but neither is BC), but you might want to look at WPI. Very underrated school by the general public, but those who know, know. Not saying it's the bee knees, but it has a very strong CS department. |
|
I would pick BC for finance, but little odd choice for CS.
BU is fine but NU is the best when it comes to CS. With that, visit the schools. You can visit them in one day. I would choose NU unless you find something you don't like about NU or you find something you really like about BU or BC. |
