Has anyone had difficulty getting their meds through MDIPA? Were the meds covered through the prescription or medical side? I just keep getting the run around.. I have preauthorization.. any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!
OP here--- how did you get your meds with MDIPA? through medco or freedom?
They (injectables) are a medical benefit not a prescription benefit so you can't get them through Medco but can anywhere else. I had no problems once I switched from medco to another pharmacy - everything was covered.
PP-what pharmacy did you use? I was denied through Freedom... and did you need a preauthorization number to order?? TIA!
Your clinic should do the ordering. They are used to dealing with the insurance ins and outs. I go to CFA, they do the ordering and then a few hours later the pharmacy calls for my credit card to charge the copay. I think I usually end up paying around 150 for everything, and I've been on high doses of the injectibles.
OP here- Thanks for the responses..they were very helpful

For me, Freedom needed the paperwork from MDIPA saying the IVF was approved/covered before the coverage for the injectables went through. Once they had that, I had no problem and paid about $150 in co-pays for the meds per cycle.
I'm bumping this thread -- with MD IPA meds, does anyone know how quickly Freedom ships out the meds? I'm scheduled to start meds next week & should get our authorization today or tomorrow.
to 11:35 - they sent the meds via FedEx on a Saturday at COB and I got it on Monday morning. You need to be home (or at your office) to sign for them. Good luck!
We had SGF call in our IVF meds to Medco. Medco called us shortly thereafter and said they could fill some of the meds (like progesterone) but others would have to be sent to freedom pharmacy. The contacted Freedom directly and transferred the scripts, and Freedom called us the next day to arrange payment and delivery. All in all a very easy process. Now let's hope we make a baby!
What was your copay on drugs for Federal MDIPA? I called today, and the person I spoke to said it would probably be $150 total...but she also didn't inspire a lot of confidence in the information. I had expected it to be higher, but maybe that's right (my protocol is pretty low on drugs). Also, she said Freedom Fertility is the only option for MDIPA. Is that correct?
PP...whoops, I missed the earlier post that said she paid $150, I guess that's right.
|
20:22 here. I'm still waiting for the injectibles from freedom, but here's the costs so far for the other drugs which I got from medco mail order. (we're MDIPA Federal)
Nortel - $7 Azithromycin - $7 Estradiol - $14 PIO - $7 I'll post again with the injectible prices when we get them. |

11:35 here.
You all had me reassured about getting the meds on time, but I didn't think about the insurance company dragging their feet on the authorization. For those of you with MDIPA, how long did it take to get the authorization for the cycle? I'm scheduled to start injectibles early next week & we've still not got the go-ahead from MDIPA (though they have all the info they need). Not the stress I need right now! |
PP--call MDIPA and ask to speak to the authorizations department and ask them your status. Once they had all our info (they wanted our marriage certificate) it was only 2 days before we were approved. Don't rely on your RE's office, or every interaction will take twice as long.
