HS Graduation dates and locations

Have all schools announced graduation dates and locations? B-CC is on June 10th at UMBC. I don't know a single person who is happy about this due to how far away it is from school. Wondering if other schools are also having to travel so far and if they are happy with locations. And curious if anyone has experienced a graduation at UMBC and what they thought of it.

Blake's is also at UMBC, on June 12 at 9 AM. Certainly doesn't seem very convenient, but I guess it's closer for Blake than for B-CC, at least.

Honestly UMBC is easier than DAR in terms of the driving and parking.

Depending on the time of the graduation it's about 40 minutes to UMBC from Bethesda, with easy parking. DAR is 30 minutes and parking is expensive and a challenge to find. I guess the downside is that UMBC is more car dependent, while you can uber downtown. People always complained about DAR too.

Ours is at UMBC and I am glad about it. Much prefer UMBC to going to DC.

There has been complaining on the BCC listserve about this partnered with parents who have expressed support for graduation at UMBC. BCC published the results of the graduation survey and student AND parent respondents clearly both voted for UMBC more than either of the other two options.

Are you aware of a close-by option that is available on Saturday morning with air conditioning, free parking, metro accessible, and can hold a graduation that size with ample guest space at a reasonable cost? If yes I’m sure the school would love to hear your ideas!

Graduations are on weekdays.

Churchill is also at UMBC. I think it will work out well- indoors, lots of seats, easy parking.

My kid's graduation was at UMBC last year, and it was fine.

PP-I added “on Saturday morning” because some of the complaining on the BCC listserve was that the date conflicted with beach week which apparently they thought MCPS should have worked around, and/or it would require parents to take too much time off work.

As a person who works in the school system and has attended numerous graduations, I would rather go to UMBC than DAR.

Sorry to be a little off topic but for siblings of graduates, is it an excused absence if you miss school to attend graduation?
