Hello, I have a Honda, a type that thieves and air bag stealers love
I am moving to a county where there have been thefts and break ins, it is not a bad area by NY means, but as we all know criminals are commuting now! This new home will not have a garage. Maybe I am being irrational but I feel it is inevitable that something will happen to my car. Should I just sell it and get something less attractive to the criminal set (if that exist?). Or, I can leave the car parked at a relatives house in another state in their garage and I would then use that relatives much older, paid off car that of something happened to it, they would not feel the loss (we have talked about this, they have another car they use everyday, the old car just sits and if something happens to it I would pay them the value for it). Issue is managing registration and insurance for the cars involved. |
| Can you work/live without one in NY? |

Assuming you need a car on a regular basis you keep your car.
Remember to lock it every single time, don’t leave valuables on the seats or in view and you seriously lower your risk. Install a ring camera on the house that points to the driveway. Put a club on the steering wheel if you want to too. |
Not in NY, in MD. |

You're overthinking it. Just because you have a Honda it does not mean it WILL get stolen. If I were in your position I would take my chances and keep driving my car.

| Get a club and be sure to use it |
| I’m sure there are good theft deterrents for the wheels and whatever. If the car has known vulnerabilities just google the answers. It’s probably a club and some wheel locks. |
| Club and cameras |
Same question. Can you work/live without one? |
No |
| put a camera outside and leave a sign in the car - smile, you are being taped! |
| Get a club and use it. Get a camera, leave NOTHING in view in the car. DO NOT USE your keyless entry and keep keys in a metal box away from any house doors or windows. |
|
Increase your insurance theft coverage. Never leave anything in sight. Lock your doors.
I’ve never had my Honda stolen and I park on the street in a densely populated neighborhood in Dc. It was broken into once when I accidentally left a backpack in the back seat. You’re overthinking this. |

This isn't anxiety this is reality. 2023 is a new beginning in terms of property and street crime. |
