50% rule is going away. Is that true?

I have heard some references at the high school where I teach that the 50% rule is going away. Anyone heard anything? I’m hoping this is true and will happen

I teach for MCPS and serve on CTL. I haven’t heard anything about the 50% rule being eliminated, but I did hear the deadlines might be.

At my HS school we had a staff meeting and were told that we can now give 0%'s for no effort or "not meeting minimum standards" i.e. a kid turning in an assignment with just a name or with only one question answered. We just have to notify home by email or remind. No need for two-way communication anymore. This is to avoid a situation where a kid doesn't come to school or skips but is still getting 50% all quarter.

So, yes. There is no default automatic 50% for no work. But it if a kid makes an effort we still have to give a minimum grade of 50%.

Teachers at my school were very happy about this change. We re tired of getting blamed for students not being in the room or refusing to do work.

Well, dang. How will my kids learn applied math skills then?

That would be wonderful. I enjoy kicking kids when they already have an F.

That seems reasonable.

That would be wonderful. I enjoy knowing schools expect their students to earn their grades.

Yes. The grading policy was quietly changed. Thank goodness.

I know! It's so wonderful that we can now ensure these good-for-nothings get an F- instead of F. Honestly, you think they'd have better things to worry about.

Why was it changed quietly?
When are parents and kids going to be told about this by MCPS? And why does it appear to vary from school to school

Professor here. This change will help prepare kids for college, where they have to make an effort in order to earn points.

+1 Finally students will take learning more seriously. No one wants to fail students. But we do want them to learn and be prepared for the world outside MCPS.

Because it grading policy says so. Schools just need to be consistent amongst themselves. The policy is online. It’s just gone back to what it almost was pre-pandemic.

In what way? Our child's teachers always gave 0s when there was no effort given, even during the pandemic but it was dependent on the teacher adn highly arbitrary like if a teacher liked a kid they'd give 50 but if they didn't 0.
