Trading Places movie what age?

Trying to watch something new for Christmas this year. Is 12 too young?

I’d probably let my rising 13yo, but I bet she’d be totally embarrassed by the sex scenes.

Well, it came out in 1983 and I saw it in the theatre. I was 11 and survived. Then again, I saw all sorts of inappropriate movies at a really young age!

Sex scenes? I recall two or three scenes that showed women’s breasts and none involved actual sex. If your 11 yo has a cell phone or internet access, I’d argue they’ve seen far worse.

The comment wasn’t about the kid having never seen it before. The comment was about being embarrassed.

Not the greatest analogy…Lol but I’ve seen P8rn, but wouldn’t want to watch it with my dad.

Was just talking about this the other day, we have boys 13 and 10. It’s one of my favorite throwback movies but, yeah, I dunno just can’t get past the breasts/sex.

Oddly I have no problem with them watching pretty severe violence in action movies—Bourne, Die Hard, Mission Impossible type stuff. Objectively that seems worse, but doesn’t bother me at all. Chalk it up to Catholic guilt I guess.

I don’t think PP was asking if the movie was life threatening.

I'd say 13. It is rated R for a reason.

The N word is all over that movie. That's an absolute no for me.

When you think about it, it's amazing how frank and explicit even "family" movies could be back in the 1980s. Much more so than today.
