| I know this is all purely hypothetical, but what do you envision happening to federal employees as a whole if a republican is elected and they have a majority in both the House and Senate? End of telework? Reduction in force? |
| We will be sent down to the countryside to learn from the masses. Federal Reserve economists harvesting vegetables in Iowa; FAA people directing traffic in Arkansas. |
|
| Giant reduction in force. But that's assuming they can figure out how to make it happen. Also possibly nothing happens because they talk but can't actually govern. That's the best case scenario. |
| Nothing. The same as every other time a Republican was elected during the last 30 years. |
| Uncharted territory |
|
I think it depends which Republican. Trump's EO on schedule F employees was setting the stage for some actual action.
Last admin life was made pretty uncomfortable at our agency. Reduction in space at the same time as telework taken away (until Covid). |
| Attempts to dismantle certain orgs like Education and EPA. Changing many positions to appointed and not career civil servant |
+1. I think I recall seeing that overall personnel levels were relatively unchanged during the Trump era. |
|
Depends on which one. DeSantis and Ravaswamy are nuts.
Did you watch the debate? |
| If we get a second trump term, all bets are off in my view. Very alarming. |
|
A Republican or Trump?
A Republican, the regular grandstanding about federal waste but nothing really. Trump? Democracy in this country is done for, and he will never leave office. |
|
I think there will be schedule F, although it’s unclear how quickly that will happen (first day or first year). Then they will start firing people they don’t like.
Doubt there will be RIF because that is administratively much much harder and they don’t care about the number of employees as long as the politicals get to do whatever they want, even if it’s against the law |
| It would be interesting to see what predictions were made for a Trump win back in 2016. I'm guessing PPL wasn't on the bingo card. |
|
My work is politically neutral, but it's the kind of thing that gets cast as political and kicked around for soundbytes. I do worry about losing my job under a new R administration, which never would have worried me before and didn't worry me during the actual Trump administration.
I'm not sure it matters whether the President is Trump or another R: the same anti govt people are in the wings either way, and they have been open about their desire to break things. |
