Good reminder for parents to talk to their kids about crossing streets!

I almost ran into a little (6th grade?) Deal kid in Tenleytown yesterday. He crossed without breaking stride or looking left or right.

Thankfully i was driving about 2 miles per hour but I was startled.

According to some posters on this site, he absolutely should be able to do that (not look at all) without fear of being hit.

F off. Yes the kid should be more cautious but bet you anything PP was rolling through a stop sign or whipping around a corner. Drivers need to be cautious.

She said she was driving 2mph. Doesn’t sound like “whipping around a corner” to me.

I don’t know about this accident but my teen was almost hit yesterday coming home from school. He was in a crosswalk crossing with a light and he said the driver made a right turn without braking or slowing and also cut into the far lane (did not turn into the right most lane). People just do not watch for pedestrians when they are turning.

sure she was. and if she was actually driving that slowly then it was OK for pedestrians to cross.

If it was at a crosswalk/corner/intersection, that's completely on you and you shouldn't have been "startled", you should have expected it.

"Yeah, stupid kids! Always getting in the way of my car!"

You are a terrible person.

Previous poster here with the experience yesterday.

No, I wasn't whipping around any corner. He wasn't even crossing at a corner.

I have had 3 kids attend Deal and I have driven the AU Park and Tenleytown streets for almost 2 decades. My kids make fun of me for being a grandmotherly slow driver. This kid was CLUELESS and someone needs to review traffic safety with him. And I'm going to take this opportunity to review safety with my current Deal student.

OR, ok---demean me in this post and then sue the driver when he's hit. But that won't bring him back to life or restore his ability to walk or think. That's a brilliant plan.
I'm stepping away from this post now.

Breathtaking in your stupidity.

Just to get this conversation back on track, the girl referenced in the original post was in a crosswalk. I don't want there to be confusion or any unintentional victim blaming.

It's *always* intentional.
