Do you still check on your kids at night?

Anonymous
My kids are young so I check on them when I go to bed at night. I make sure they are tucked in and give them a kiss.

Do you still do this? If you used to and it stopped how old were your kids when it stopped?

Truthfully it’s one of my favorite parts of my day. Kids are peacefully sleeping and I get to just soak in how much I love them and how cute they are.

Mine is 8 and yes, I check right before I go to bed. I check the dog, too.

Nope. I mean if they cry or there's some sort of commotion, of course. But just as a matter of course, no. Their rooms are on the floor above ours, and our house is old and creaky. I pretty much stay off that level after bedtime so I don't risk waking them. They're 4 and 8.

6 year old yes. 9 year old no but he goes to bed almost as late as I do.

No. I go to bed before my kids. I do go in to my 14 year olds room to say good night and tell hi, or to stay up to late. Teens are in college but I don’t when they’re home. I’ve been asleep for hours by the time they go to bed.

I did until they started to go to bed after me (high school, up doing homework). I still check on them before I go to bed.

DS just turned 11. I will usually check on him when I go to bed to make sure the light is off.

Never did that. Once they are sleeping, let them be.
Would you want someone creeping into your room while you sleep?

I still do it sometimes for my 11YO. Now that she's older, we have a similar bed times so I only do it when I'm up late.

I've never done that, ever. When they were babies and cried out, obviously I responded but I've never just gone in their rooms while they were sleeping.

Yes. Oldest is a 13 year old boy. He still asks me to check on him each night.

No, but I have OCD and consciously not checking is part of my recovery. Otherwise I totally would.

Yes, to make sure they're asleep at a reasonable hour.

DD is 4, and we currently live in fear of her waking up at night, so we don't open her door after she's down. If she's sick or something, I'll check on her, but for a typical night we're Pink Panthering up the stairs in silence and making sure the hall light is off to avoid rousing her. DH would probably have a kitten if I popped in to kiss her little cheek and she woke up.

I have 4/6/8. I don't touch them because I don't want to wake them but I frequently just pop in and look at them, its reassuring and is a quiet moment where I can just soak them in.
