Shea

How do you feel about the name Shea? My husband loves it. I’m on the fence. Would you spell it Shea or Shay?

I knew a guy who went by Shay and he was cool. Seemed like a good name. I think it was short for Shaphan or something Biblical.

I like it, please spell it Shea. Shay is a made up name for people who don't know how to spell it properly.

Oh, I assumed Shea was a girl's name. I've met two people named Shea and both were female.

Plenty of people are familiar with shea butter but I still think you woukd get a lot of "she-a" from people who don't know. I prefer traditional spelling to phonetic generally.

OP here. I didn’t even know to mention it’s for a girl. I had zero idea that it’s also a boy’s name! I don’t know if that changes my thoughts on the name, but it’s good to know. Thank you!

Someone I went to college with JUST named her baby girl Shea. I think it’s pretty and understated.

I only think of the word butter when I see that word.

The only Shea I know was a cool kid. Now as an adult she has presence and still has the cool vibe. She is also the daughter of a very wealthy family, whose parents adore her. So there is that.

I love it for both male and female. I would definitely spell it Shea. It is one of very few names that is familiar and easy/approachable but not overused/common

I 100% agree. I’m pregnant with a girl. I’m looking for a name with a similar vibe as Shea— just as you described (familiar and easy/approachable but not overused/common). Any ideas? Anyone? I don’t mean to hijack your post, OP. Maybe it can be helpful to you too?

I only know one and it's a guy but obviously that's not a good sample size. Makes me think of Shea stadium. Is your husband a fan?

I like it for a girl though, just haven't met one.

I have only hear of black women having this name. It would be like naming a kid Keisha. Go for it YMMV.

Grandma? I didn’t know you were on DCUM. It’s way past your bedtime.

Um, what? Nope. It's an Irish/Gaelic name, PP.
